Ond is the spirit or breath. It is similar to Chinese Qi.
Ond is the essence of life, it is thought that the breath is one’s spirit. A number of ancient traditions believed that the spirit entered the body with the first breath and left the body with last. Our ancestors looked at this way and it is easy to see why. Anyone who has sat with someone who has crossed over knows that it appears, that the breath seems to move from the belly, up the chest as the persons breathing becomes shallower and more erratic, and then seems to move out of their body with their last breath.
It is thought a person can strengthen their breath/Ond or weaken it. This does not mean that it is similar to a rechargeable battery, but as more to do with your posture and the way one breaths. We will delve into this more in a latter post.
The important point of this post is to understand that your Ond is the key to Galdr and Shamanic Chanting/Singing. You give birth to your Galdr and Chanting with your Ond, your voice sends out vibrations and it is these vibrations that effect your surroundings. Whether you are using magical rhyme to control the weather or shamanic singing to draw spirits to you for the purpose of gaining knowledge, it is all powered by your breath, your Ond.
