Sacred Fire

I have written more than a few words about the history of the Sacred Fire and how to make one in my book, "Foundations of Fire and Ice Shamanism." But this is an important topic that a number of Germanic Pagans overlook or ignore. The sacred fire was a large part of Northern European people's spiritual practices.

In the Kjalnesinga Saga we learn that a Temple dedicated to Thor had a sacred fire that was never allowed to go out.

We know that toasts were made to the Sacred Fire and a ritual lead by the Lady of the home were drink and food was fed to the fire in the hearth.

  • The goal of the ritual was to help maintain a positive relationship with the fire and to encourage it to not get out of control.

If you are interested in the Sacred Fire and want to learn more, check out my new book coming out this August 2025, "German Hex Craft: Traditional German Folk Magic and Rituals."
